Hi,
For sending traps, the RO community should be sufficient.

Subject:RE: SNMP trap Community-string Question
Dan / Michael,
Thanks for the email....
For your clarification my question was, Whether to use the community-string
defined on the NNM (Network Node Manager) for RO or RW e.g. if I have
defined on my NNM as "public" for RO and "private" for RW.
Which one of them should I use with "snmp-server host host [version {1 |
2c}] community-string [udp-port port] [trap-type]"
Will either of these can be used as community-string (i.e. "public" or
"private").
Again, Thanks for the input.
Regards,
Saleem

the community string refers to the snmp community string configured on the
management station, or in this case the trap receiver. In my past
experience when sending traps to openview machines I simply use pubilc....

Saleem
You specify the comm string, not the word community-string
So the string is whatever you have setup on the NNM
It can be "public"
While the RO string in the router is "askdjiasd"
and the RW string in the router is "qjed8yu4"

Subject: SNMP trap Community-string Question
All,
Inorder to configure the router to send traps to a host, and which hosts
will receive traps with a specific password-like community string acting.
Which as an trap authentication mechanism between the router and NNM .
Using the command : snmp-server host host [version {1 | 2c}]
community-string [udp-port port] [trap-type]
My question is whether the community-string falls for "RO" or "RW"
Note : I checked out the CCO-CD, It is no where specified what type of
community-string.
Any kind of input will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Saleem
