BRI Port -- No keepalive

Is it a must to enter "no keepalive" on BRI interface? What will happen without
 this command? I understand how this command works on Serial & Ethernet interfa
ce but have no idea why this command is needed for BRI. Any guidance will be ve
ry much appreciated.
