The hardware and ASICs are key to why the Juniper
boxes are speedy. Look on their website to find out
what the ASICs do. You can upgrade and get new
features still but they will be in software (run from
main processors) just like any other router.

Additionally, their place is in the Core mainly now
and they only need to deal with IP and standard
routing protocols, etc. What else do you need if
you're just doing IP and standard stuff? You can
connect to any other box running standard protocols.
I've been to their HQ and their TAC and the people
there are top-notch. I'm not saying who's better, but
the box does what it was designed to do. Every vendor
has their issues and all software has bugs.

I work in a multi-vendor environment so am not biased
to one or two vendors. I will use/fix/rip apart
anybody's box.
