In the real world, I would probably set up HSRP and
then adjust the spanning tree port priority on the
switch to make it prefer the uplink with the active
router. If the router failed, hsrp would kick in the
standby router and spanning tree would reconverge and
use the standby uplink.
R1 (active) ---hsrp--- R2(standby)
