DEfault metric carried into difeerent AS

Whats the default MED attribute passed on to the EBGP peer is it 0 which I
always have read ,But what I see in my lab is that when I use OSPF as the
IGP its metric is automatically carried in as MED to the EBGP peers but
incase of EIGRP its not until I use the set metric-type internal in a
route-map
Any comments would be highly appreciated,Plz coorect me If I am wrong
