Both are useful.
ctrl-shift-6-x if you have successfully telnetted to another box & want to
suspend.
ctrl-shift-6-6 if have successfully telnetted to another box, started a
traceroute (for example) on that box and want to stop the traceroute on that
box (if you use ..6-x, you just get your telnet session to that box
suspended, but the traceroute continues (..31 * * *...!)).
You can of course do either if your telnet to the other box wasn't
successful in the first place
