find a crimping tool,

Sanjay,
   You're referring to a loopback plug, not a cross-over cable. But
you're
correct, for loopback plugs just cut a cat5 cable in half and wrap the
correct
wires together. I talked a customer through that one time (she was
impressed
also)... LOL But it worked and proved the Telco was the source of the
problems... ;-)
