If you need to advertise that loopback address for pings etc. you would need
to add it to the routing process with a network statement. However it is not
necessary to add the loopback to the process for OSPF with a loopback I.D.
to work. In general always put your loopbacks into OSPF or whatever flavor
of routing protocol you are using.
Whatever mask you are using on the loopback interface OSPF will advertise it
as a /32. Also I always try and put my loops into and area other that 0 so
I can summarize with the area range for easy VLSM---->FLSM situations.
Hope this answers you question,
Marco

If I have loopback int. for router id in ospf, do I need to add that int.
to an area. Is it necessary to add a network statement for that loopback
int. address?
