Those 7200's are a bit touchy..as you know you cant format a 7200 card with a
7000 series router and vise versa which is probably why you are getting that
error. The 3600 series and 2600s let you use xmodem to recover is such
situations and the 2500's have the boothelper mode, but that doesnt help you
with a 7200. If you have no image on the card or on flash then your best be is
to you your CCO account to have RMA a replacement card complete with image of
your choice or find someone who has a 7200 router in the neighborhood. The
rommon mode on a 7200 is useful as ...well you know.

Hi everyone.
I've got a 7204 with no helper image installed on either the flashsim or
flashdisk. I've got no other 7200 to format the flashdisk with, I've tried
formatting it with an ASP and an RP on a 7000. Then I've loaded the boot
image (from CCO) onto the card - but it still won't boot!!!
I've got all my ATM cards stacked up in my 7200 ready for building and the
damn thing won't do it's stuff!!
all I get is :
device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "bootflash:"
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "bootflash:"
and
device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "slot0:"
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "slot0:"
The 7200 ROM monitor doesn't support xmodem (as far as I can see). Anyone
got any ideas??
cheers,
Simon
