LOL!!! This was very close to reality the first time I did my lab, in May
1997 at RTP. All cables were hanging from hooks approx. 10 feet off the
ground, and were in extreme disrepair from having been pulled down and
dropped on their exposed pins so many times. If you didn't start on Monday
you got the worst ones (there were only enough cables for all four (!)
candidates to cable their labs simultaneously), and physical layer problems
would haunt you the entire two days of your lab.
