Okee doke. I think you guys are all over-thinking this problem!!! A couple
options you have....
1. Don't include EIGRP updates as "interesting" traffic.
2. Give up on EIGRP over the BRI link and do snapshot routing.
Sometimes things don't always work in nice, little, compact packages! :)

Sure you can configure the hello and hold timers but all you're changing
is the amount of time the neighbors will stay up. What if the link doesn't
come up for several hours during the middle of the night and the
hello/hold interval is just under that, the neighbors are down and the
routes are flushed. Let's say the central site has a packet destined for
the remote network, will he have a route for it, no. You also couldn't
rely on using a default route because you don't point default routes to
remote networks (in real life). Of course, you could use floating statics
but then aren't we defeating the purpose of the exercise? EIGRP isn't
designed for DDR, otherwise they would have the equivalent of ip ospf
demand-circuit. I haven't looked into ipx eigrp extensively yet but I
would bet it has the same basic behavior as ip eigrp and DDR isn't
specifically supported.
Someone else had mentioned that yes, you can change the interval, but
doing so isn't a good solution. But you're correct, technically you can
probably make it work but I would never use it in the real world.
