Do you have 'ip classless' enabled on the router? That's the first place I wou
ld look.

Subject: Default Floating Static Route

Configuration:

I am having difficulty with a DDR backup in my lab.
I have two 2500 series routers connected with modems through the AUX ports.
They are also connected via a DTE/DCE cable that simulates a leased line.
I am running EIGRP as the only routing protocol.
On the "core side" router, I have defined two static r6outes, one to the
remote router's loopback network (10.254.254.16/30) and the other to its'
ethernet network (10.1.2.0/24).
On the "remote" router, I have defined a static default route (0.0.0.0/0).
All static routes have an admin distance of 180.

Symptoms:

When I shut down the primary link, the routers will initiate a dial.
However, the remote router will not pass traffic back to the core. A debug
showed that the core side pings were reaching the remote router, but were
not making it back across the DDR circuit.
During troubleshooting, I inserted a static route to the classful network
(10.0.0.0/8 180). At this point the remote router started passing data n
ormally.

Questions:

Does anyone know why the remote router would not pass data based on the
default route, but would based on the class A network route?
If something was truly wrong with the default route, why did the remote
router initiate the call at all?

Thanks for your help...
