Hi Folks
My name is Kannan Jayaraman and i am from Chennai, India.
I made my first attempt at the CCIE lab last
month and did not pass. I made it to Day 2 but did
not get enough points to go to troubleshooting.
I took the lab exam in Bangalore , India.
I am now preparing for the exam again ,
heard about this list from some friends and decided
to subscribe.
Here is my feedback about the lab exam :
1. I found that 'time management' is very important in the lab.
When we practice we need to keep track of time. I was very
slow on Day 1 and by lunch had just started my
IGP configuration ! I had to be very quick in the
next four hours or so and get everything done. I could
not answer a few questions on DLSw/BGP because of this
( the worst part was i knew how to do the BGP stuff ).
When i arrived on Day 2 , the proctor told me i had just
enough points to go to the next session. Day 2 is even
tougher - we have just three hours for about 30 points. We've
got to be very quick and proficient in the Day 2 topics.
2. No partial credit is given - we need to get each
question right completely ( i.e answer all parts of a question)
to get the points. Unless we get each of these parts right we
lose all the points for the question ! This means we need to be
pretty good at all the major concepts of a protocol
( like RIP or OSPF ) as each concept could be tested in
different tasks belonging to the same question.
3. The CCIE candidate needs to be very familiar with
the Doc CD. I got a few questions which i could not
figure out and had to read the Documentation. So it is
important to know the content and the 'layout' of the Doc CD.
4. Finally i think it is important to be proficient in each and
every topic listed in the CCIE lab exam syllabus before attempting
the lab exam. There were a few areas where i was 'weak' and i
remember getting a few questions in those areas that i could not
answer.
So That's it. I look forward to learning from everybody on this
mailing list and also to contribute whatever i can.
Thanks and Regards
Kannan
