telnet problem

I have experienced a new problem.

I can telnet to the router (access server), I can also
telnet to any other router from there. But when I
enter the escape seq (Control-Shift-6 , x)to come back
to the access server, rather than comming back to the
access server, the telnet session terminates.

How do I solve this and what could be the reason for
this.
