Dave,
Good description of an OPX, but PLAR will not work quite that way, at least
not without ring-relay configured.
I have used 3810's to set up an OPX, and initially had supervison problems
when using "connection plar". When the PBX would ring the OPX line, the 3810
FXO side would go off-hook, and then ring the far-end FXS. If someone
answered the phone, everything was fine, but if no one was there and the
caller hung up, the phone would continue to ring indefinitely. The fix was
to upgrade to code that had "connection plar-ring-relay" as an option. In
this mode the PBX-side 3810 extends the ring, but does not go off-hook
unless the far-end answers, basically emulating a dumb T1 channel bank. The
downside to this fix was a noticable delay in getting dial tone when the
far-end phone is taken off hook, since dial tone is actually coming from the
PBX.
In the end I had to yank out the 3810's due to T1 jitter problems (with 1/2
the T1 carrying video), and a lack of reliability. Just curious, does anyone
have any good or bad 3810 stories to share? The Cisco guys tell me that the
current version is much improved, and I'm tempted to try again (though in a
simpler application).
Regards, Dave
