        Aaron,
As a suggestion, try this: set the ports with the affected equipment
up with the command "no exec". The usual source of your difficulty IMHO is
that the attached equipment is sending something to it's console port, which
is attached to your 2511. Your 2511 in turn launches an Exec process to deal
with the incoming data. Since there is an Exec processing running for those
ports, then to the 2511, they are clearly in use (Even though the 2511
doesn't seem to know by who!) so it will not allow you to connect to them.
        I trust this helps,
        Mike

        Subject: Terminal server and garbage

I am using a 2511 terminal server to connect to the console ports of
5 other
routers. Every time I boot up and attempt reconnection, I must clear
line
1-5, then when I connect, I get a mass of garbage before I get the
router
prompt. Does anyone have any hints on how I can prevent this? I seem
to
remember reading something on this but it has left my mind-
