    Title: Simple (?) ATM question

   Richard,
Here is a basic ATM config that will establish IP connectivity over a
PVC. The VCD number (5) is only locally significant, the PVC is 0 10.
You could use a subinterface, but it's not required unless you have
   multiple IP networks.

   Regards, Dave

   interface atm 3/0
   ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
   atm rate-queue 1 100
   atm pvc 5 0 10 aal5snap
   ip route-cache cbus
   map-group atm
   !
   map-list atm
   ip 1.1.1.5 atm-vc 5 broadcast

   Subject: Simple (?) ATM question

     Hello All,

I've got a virtual circuit coming in on an ATM connection. I want
to apply an IP address to it and reach another IP host on the other
side. I will need broadcast functionality on this connection. For
the moment, I'm unaware of any NSAP or E.164 address that I may
have, but it is entirely possible that I could get one from the
     switch.

What's the right way to accomplish this? I have a lot of
experience in ATM LANE and Frame Relay, but this one is not making
sense to me. I don't have the equipment to do hands-on studying
     with ATM

So far, I've figured that I have to apply an ATM map-class to the
interface to associate the IP address with the VC. That mapping
     should include a broadcast parameter.

What "atm PVC" or "atm SVC" command should I use to define the
     virtual circuit on the interface?.

Should I use a subinterface? I'm stretching my Frame Relay
knowledge over here by asking that question.

Should I use the well-known VCs for ILMI and QSAAL? Are they
     necessary?

Will I need to mess with any of the ATM addressing?

In all... what do I need to do to get that IP host on the other
side of that VC coming in?

Thank you all for your help, I hope to return the favor to the
     other lemmings someday :)
