Thanks , its really a valuable tip. Now I believe I need not to
run after sniffer and I can spend this time in some other issues

I'll prefer debug ipx packet.

Khurram.

Subject: Ответ: Using Sniffer to detect IPX Network and IPX Frame Type

To configure Catalyst 5000 to check IPX encapsulation (or what else) you
need to set next command:
1. set span enable;
2.set span <vlan number> <port number to which mirror traffic > <direction
(in/out/both)>

To run sniffer to capture packet you must press F5 button from main menu,
wait some time (about 2-3 minutes) and press F10 button to stop capturing.
After that in main menu you search for menu like "display" choose it. You
can see on the screen packet with IPX network and encapsulation type.

FYI,
at lab you don't need to use sniffer. You can make that by set "debug ipx
packet" in global config prompt. Then go to the interface prompt, set ANY
IPX network (f.e. "ipx network EE"), after that wait when debug displayed
packet from the IPX server with REAL IPX network with Novell-ether
encapsulation. You note this info, and change IPX encapsulation "ipx network
EE enca SAP" wait again, if there's IPX network with this encapsulation you
will see message from IPX server with REAL IPX network with SAP
encapsulation. Continue this proccess for next IPX encapsulation : SNAP,
ARPA.

BTW, if you are not first who start sniffer you need just to go to the
sniffer and write to the paper all IPX networks and encapsulation capture
before.
