Thanks Bill, Scott had hit the nail on the head. I had been stupid and
forgotten to add the loopbacks to the routing process, and hey presto it
didn't work !!!
Just goes to show you need to step back a bit and take another look every
now and then

                No reason why you can't use loopbacks pointed to by your
"neighbor x.x.x.x" cmd when using confederations.

                I assume you're using the "neighbor update-source loopbackx"
cmd.
