I have a question for the group that I can't test as I don't have the
equipment available.

On a couple of scenarios I have seen, you have an OSPF area which is not
adjacent to area 0 and so needs a virtual link. BUT, there is an ISDN in the
setup which has to kick in on link failure which makes the area then
adjacent, not needing the virtual link. This means that you would have two
links to area 0, one via the ISDN and one via the virtual link.

Has any one come across this problem ?
