!!!! CCIE #5509 !!!!!!
There was great Happiness in Halifax, Nova Scotia today.
I, along with 4 other fine CCIE candidates, have finally reached
their long awaited destination. (The rumors of nobody passing
in Halifax are slightly exaggerated.)
I am very thankful to God for allowing me to not have to
stress out, study every evening, and basically move on with
the rest of my life. Yes, this was definetly a posting I was
hoping to make for a long time.
Thanks to everyone on this list, especially Naushad for
answering my ATM questions in great detail at the 11th
hour before my exam. Got all my ATM points!!! I'm sure
I could go on forever thanking people (especially all of my
colleagues at Geo/GK) (that means you too Debi). Thanks again!
I'm definetly sticking around on the list, although for the next
few days it will go unnoticed into my mailbox ;)
CCIE Tips:
- If you go to Halifax, stay in Cambridge Suites, it's really close.
- Don't forget to go over your ICRC/ICND material, a lot of the stuff
they come up with comes straight from there, people often over look it
b/c they feel 'above' it.
- It is achievable (barely), not quite a joke, maybe more like a pun
that's
not very funny...
- Know the CD, Know it well, Know the CD. Know how to find stuff quick.
- Have your own set of equipment to work on, it really makes a
difference.
- Read this list and work through the examples that are posted - a
couple of times.
- Books:
* All the course manuals that Cisco offers (Hey, I'm an instructor ;-),
besides, where do you think Cisco comes up with a lot of their gotchas)
* Caslow's Book
* Routing TCP/IP Volume I
* Halabi's BGP book
- Know the basics well, practice doing the basics over and over again.
Blow away all the configs of your lab routers and start over frequently.
If you're not using notepad to paste in the 'ip classless, no ip
domain-lookup, etc.'
you probably aren't fast enough. It may seem tedious at the time, but
it will pay off.
I finished nearly 3 hours early the first day, and over an hour early
the morning of the second day. You will get stuff you haven't seen
before, this will allow you to use
this time to search for it. I used 'cciebootcamp.com' good labs, a bit
too many
routers in each lab, but definetly good labs. Tell Marc I recommended
you,
maybe he'll pick up my tab for lunch some day :)
- What's on the exam?? Everything. And Yes it's gotten harder.
Is anyone still reading this???
Well, time to sit back, relax, Unglue the Cisco CD that's been stuck
in my laptop for the last 6 months and put in some good music.

P.S. They don't tell you your score in Halifax, Pass=Pass=Perfect
Fail=Fail=Not-so-perfect
P.S.S. I already forgot the secret handshake... Dangit!
