be patient...

Hello Group,

Something I have learned while practicing is to be patient with the routers.
Things often dont happen right after you have configured them ... especially
with DLSW, BGP and AppleTalk, Ive found. Sometimes it takes as long as 3-4
minutes!.
For instance, today I was doing some DLSW practice. I configured DLSW
between an Ethernet on one router and Token-Ring on another router. That
came up fairly quickly. I then added a third router's Ethernet to the DLSW
network. I waited for several minutes for it to work and it didnt. I then
started to try and research what I had done incorrectly. I went to lunch
and thought about it some more. When I came back from lunch an hour later
it was working.
After seeing that, I began to think that if I had been in the actual CCIE
test, I wouldnt have been that patient. I probably would have started
changing the configuration around and begin a downward spiral to failure.

I guess what I have learned is ... if the configuration is RIGHT and you
know it, give it some more time ... if it still doesnt come up, reload the
involved routers. If it STILL doesnt come up right, then your configuration
is WRONG.

Has anyone had such experiences on the exam?
