Stan is correct. IBGP sessions do not need to be directly connected. EBGP
multihop only applies to external sessions that aren't directly connected.
As this thread illustrates, IBGP peers depend on IGP for reaching one
another. For a challenge, try inserting a third router between the two
IBGP peers, and do not run BGP on it all. Use update-source lo0 on each
peer and use 172.16.2.1 /24 for the lo0 IP address on BOTH peers. Yes, use
the same IP address on the loopbacks. A three letter solution should come
to mind...
