Hi Eddie-
With crb, you can route a particular protocol on some interfaces and
bridge
that same protocol on other interfaces in the same box. However, bridged

protocol traffic can only be passed to other bridged interfaces and routed
protocol traffic
can only be passed to other routed interfaces; protocol traffic from a
bridged interface can not be passed to a routed interface.

That's where irb come in. With irb, you have the ability to pass (the
same) protocol
traffic between a bridged interface and a routed interface via the BVI
(Bridged Virtual Interface).

Before crb and irb, the only option you had in a box was to bridge it on
all
interfaces or to route it on all interfaces.
