Benjy,
There is no problem in running OSPF over a dialer interface - just ensure
that you have the dialer-group command on the interface refer to a
dialer-list that includes the OSPF packets as interesting. Also ensure that
the dialer interface has been specified to run OSPF (use show ip ospf
interface and check that the interface is there).
Bear in mind that the link will come up and never go down once you set this
up (due to interesting hello packets). This does not matter if you are using
it as a backup interface, as the interface will be down (in astandby mode)
until the primary interface goes down. At that stage the interface will come
up, dialing will occur, and adjacencies should be formed.
An alternative is to use ospf demand circuits. These are setup as you would
for normal OSPF circuits, but you enter the command 'ip ospf demand' on one
of the dialer interfaces. OSPF will then set the do not age bits on routes
over that link, and will not send hello messages (allowing the line to go
idle out). There are a couple of issues with this where the line comes up
whenever a state change occurs and lsa's need to be flooded over the link -
can really cause problems when you are redistributing routes that go up and
down.

Subject: ISDN Dialer Profile and OSPF
Hi Gang,
Is it possible to route OSPF over ISDN with a Dialer Profile instead of
using Legacy ISDN? I have configured 2 routers using dialer profiles, which
uses a dial string, and won't allow "broadcast" ospf traffic and therefore
will not establish neighbor adjacencies. If I could use the "dialer map
ip...broadcast.." command I'd be all set. Can anyone help. I will pay!!!
Just kidding boys!
Thanks in Adv.
