I suspect in the lab you are going to have to be real worried about DR/BDR
elections. In other words I am betting they will tell you that router X
must always be the DR, router Y must always be the BDR just to see if you
know how to handle priority.

I would get used to manually setting DR/BDR in all your scenarios and making
sure RIDs don't change (ie use loopbacks always).

For OSPF, I would think point-to-multipoint would be preferred, so you
would not have to worry about OSPF interface priority and DR/BDR
elections.
