First let me thank those of you that sent notes of encouragement the last
few days. Keep um comming, I'll be back for another shot in December.
Here are a few things I learned form this attempt, and boy did I learn alot.
Read the question, I know I have said this and so have others, thats what
killed me. I read the question, and either missed something or read
something into it. As an example, if the question askes for access lists.
You better have 2, even if you can do it 1. Also there may or may not be
notes between questions, or a note in the paperwork you sign before the
test. Write these down. We were told to, and of cource, I was going to
rember that. I did not, there goes a bunch of points. Also when checking
your configs. Make sure they do what they are supposed to, but also make
sure they are not doing other things. You only have a few routers and
switches to work with and one heck of alot going on. Some times one small
change to a routing protocol may look like its working, but also figure out
what else it may or may not have done to the lab as a whole. And boy do the
proctors know, and will look for it. More points down the drain.
I have seen a number of postings in the last few weeks on ATM. For those of
you that are all worried about new stuff on the labs, clam down. I think I
saw a posting here the other day that mentioned it being worth 5 points
total. That seems really high from what I saw. That version of the test must
have the highest amount of ATM of any. I would and will spend more time on
the more common stuff. And also look and some of the older stuff that is not
used any more. I had alot more questions in these areas and alot more
points. Rember the test is on routing and switching. Not hardware
interfaces. If you are going for the test soon and have not read Parkhusts
book. Get it and memorize. He points out a number of things that can trip
you up, and did.
Well thats about it, off to the bar.
Howard.
