RE: DDR Interesting traffic

Bill,

If you have WINS, domain replication, and trust relationships setup through
the ISDN connection then you won't be able to stop the connection from
dialing. WINS, domain replication, and trust relationships are unicast
traffic from one device to another, not broadcast traffic that is matching
the interesting traffic. WINS replication between servers depends on the
type of replication you have setup such as push, pull, or both. Each
replication type will determine weather WINS will replicate randomly (upon
changes to the database actually) or on a timed interval. Domain
replication is caused by the PDC requesting the BDC's to check with the PDC
to see if any changes have been made to the SAM and to replicate changes if
they are detected. This is done at a regular interval. Trust relationships
also cause peridoc traffic from the PDC's of each domain to confirm that the
trust relationship still exists and is valid. All these scenarios will keep
bringing your line up based on the intermittent communication of these
services, not necessarily broadcasts although that could also be an
influence.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

Subject: DDR Interesting traffic

I am working on a ip dialer-list for ISDN DDR. I have denied broadcast
from being interesting. This network has NT servers on either side of
the ISDN. Interesting traffic from PC's and NT Servers keeps bringing
the DDR up. The traffic is not broadcasts. How can I tell what traffic
is interesting by port number. The servers are running WINS and doing
domain/SAM synchronization. The servers also have a trust relationship.
