The lab test is difficult but not impossible to pass. I know because I have
passed it. Some of the things that helped me during the test, beside alot
of hands on, are time management, having a good plan of attack, good
documentation and staying calm though out the test. I did not know how to
do everything on the test but I did have time to look some of them up on the
CD.

I did not know the topology of the test or the protocols, but I had a
generic idea of how I was going to address the routers for IP, IPX,
Appletalk and Decnet. I practiced this in my lab scenarios until I did not
have to think about it. This helped immensely because I knew where
everything was when I was done. During my practice sessions I would also
document the network as if I was taking the test.

I ran into the problem of going back through the test to work on sections
that I skipped. I kept going over things that I completed. To resolve
this, I listed each section number with their point values. When I thought
that I completed a section I checked it off and did not have to refer to it
again. This also gave me an idea of how many points I might have at the end
of the day.

I found that searching the CD was slow. So I would start a search and go
back to the routers to configure something else while the search engine was
plugging away.

Being a CCIE is not only having a good foundation to work from but having
the ability to adapt to difficult situations under pressure. A key to
passing the test is to stay calm and focused.

I wish everyone good luck on their tests.

Kevin
