My config looked almost like yours. Instead of doing no shiut on the async
interface, do a clear line aux 0.

int async 1
no cdp neighbors
encap ppp

On a debug ppp neg, it looked like ppp didn't like cdp packets.

you don't need the ddr. when you clear line it forces dtr up and establishes
the connection. This will be a permanent connection.
