You don't need to receive updates regarding network that are internal
to your AS. But think about a condition in which you have two ASBR in your
AS both running BGP. Every ASBR would receive the routes injected in the AS
by
the other ASBR via IBGP.
Hoping it could clarify a little.

Oggetto: Why do you need IBGP updates?
I'm finally coming around to understanding the big picture with BGP. I
think ....
If a BGP router receives a UPDATE message from an IBGP peer, it (by
default) checks
to see if the route is learned via an IGP. The admin distance for IBGP
is 200, so by itself, an IBGP
learned route will never be accepted into the routing table unless the
"No Sync" command is issued.
I guess the question is:
Why would you ever need to learn about a network internal to your AS
from another IBGP peer?
