Howdy,
I'm happy to announce that I passed the CCIE lab in San Jose this
last Thursday. I kept pretty detailed notes on costs and my study
time and some of you might be interested. I officially started
on this path right after the first of this year. I took the written
test in February, first try at lab in April, passed in June. I wasn't
working during most of this time (voluntarily!), so I was able to
spend more hours per day on this than most working stiffs. Also,
I have a BSEE and about 4-5 years working with Cisco routers and
switches so I have a decent background.
Hours reading books & docs: 198
Hours in lab: 462
Total hours of preparation: 659 (about 116 days @ 5.7 hours/day on avg.)
Equipment used: (1 2501, 2 2502, 2 2503, 1 2509, 1 4000)
Total costs (books, equip., travel, misc., etc.): $15,000
Courses taken (previous years): ACRC, CIT, CATM
Most referenced books:
Doyle's TCP/IP routing
Caslow's CCIE book
Thomas' OSPF book
Slattery/Burton Cisco IP Routing
I should have done more than skim through Halabi's book...
I also bought the practice labs from CCIEbootcamp. I found them
useful. They have some mistakes and are a little out of date (IMHO).
I would like to thank all the contributors to this list- I got a
lot of good scoop from you guys.
Good luck
