You will find that the Aux port might still be flaky. Remember that the Aux
port can support a 'console' session also. By default the router is running
an exec process on that line. To ensure that the Aux port is running
cleanly, you need to add 'no exec' to the configuration for line 8 in your
example. The only other command that I use on the line 8 section is
'flowcontrol hardware'. None of the others is needed.
Asside: In my ASET lab preparation, I had to connect the Aux0 port to Async8
of another router. Then get OSPF & a virtual link running across it.
Finally, I had to tunnel AppleTalk across the IP link.

I love you guys. I finally got it to work!!!!!! Gopal, Brian, and
others,
you were right. The trick is to as follows:
Shut down the async interface on both routers. Then while BOTH are
down, do
a no shut on one and then the other. The important thing I found is
to make
sure they both are down at the same time so ppp can negotiate.
I'm sure I'll talk to you guys later on today/tomorrow when I try to
route
over the async line.
Thanks a bunch.
Ben
